Who You Are

Telespazio Germany is seeking a Werkstudent to provide Python coding support for two related projects. The first project involves parsing structured ASCII-file or API-data to be archived in a data cluster, while the second project involves retrieving, analyzing, and plotting data from this cluster. This is mainly mission data for flying spacecraft.

What You Will Focus on

The Werkstudent role is a part-time position with 10 hours per week, and almost all work will be done from home office. However, meetings can be arranged in Darmstadt, Tübingen, Stuttgart, and Heidelberg. This position is expected to last approximately 10 months with the possibility of an extension and should start as soon as possible. The location of this position is within the Flight Control Team (FCT) of the XMM-Newton and INTEGRAL satellites at the European Space Operation Centre (ESOC) in Darmstadt, Germany.

What You Bring

As the Werkstudent, you will be responsible for writing code and creating accompanying tests and documentation as part of a 3 people international coding team.

Essentially

  • Medium to good experience with PEG parsers.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of Python development.
  • Experience with tools such as git, black, and pytest is an advantage.
  • Fluency in English, both in speech and writing
  • Coordination and interaction with other team members and other fields.
  • Ability to work independently from Home Office.

Desirably

  • Familiarity with Astronomical & Fundamental Physics, Interplanetary or Earth Observation satellites
  • The ability to multi-task efficiently.
